Trekking of La Travesera
For five days, we'll cross the Picos de Europa National Park, staying in spectacular locations and exploring some of the most iconic and beautiful spots in our spectacular National Park. A trek you can't miss.
Trekking Itinerary
On our first day of trekking, we will depart from the Basilica Covadonga (260m), passing through the Vegas de Orandi, Severín and Fana, to ascend to the paradisiacal place of the Lakes of Covadonga (1,100m), where we will make a short stop to enjoy the wonderful surroundings and views of the peaks of the massif. We will continue, crossing meadows and valleys, towards the Vegarredonda Refuge, on the way to the main peaks of the mountain range. Western Massif, where we will spend our first night.
Distance: 17 km. Elevation: +1,510 m – 220 m
A demanding and beautiful day that passes through the highest peaks of the Cornión massif, crossing one of the most breathtaking places in the Picos de Europa, such as the Jou Santo, a place to enjoy. We will leave Jou Santo through the Boquete, enjoying the incredible views towards the Massif Central and the town of Cain, which we will descend after a long descent along the Mesones canal to spend the night in this beautiful town in León.

Day to put your legs to the test with the rise of the Dobresengros ChannelWe will enter the Cares route, to leave it after the first tunnels and turn towards the Dobresengros canal, which we must climb completely to the Cain's Fork, at 2,394m. Every effort has its reward and from this hour we will see the Picu Urriellu, symbol of the Picos de Europa. We will descend to the Vega de Urriellu, where we will spend our third night in the Urriellu Shelter.
Distance: 11 km. Elevation: +2,100 m – 450 m
On this day we change massif again, leaving behind the Massif Central or the Urrielles to head towards the Eastern or Andara MassifWe will go around the Picu Urriellu to ascend to Collada Bonita at 2,418m The highest peak of this trek and a beautiful place where we can appreciate the entire southern face of Picu. We begin a long descent through the Moñetas Valley to the Duje Valley, which separates the two massifs, to enter the Jidiellu Canal, the challenge of the day. Once we reach the Valdominguero pass, all that remains is to descend to the Andara Shelter, where we will spend our last night.
Distance: 18 km. Elevation: +1,950 m -2,190 m
On our last day, we will descend towards the Hitu of Escarandi to head towards Collado Posadoiro, from where we will follow the Roman path of Caoru to descend towards Arenas de Cabrales, the final stop of this magnificent trek. A short taxi ride will take us back to Covadonga.
Distance: 16 km. Elevation: +310 m -1,880 m

To take into account
- At the shelters you can buy a picnic for each day, avoiding carrying heavy items.
- There are blankets in the shelters. A light sleeping bag or a sleeping bag sheet is sufficient.
- The route may be subject to changes depending on weather conditions, shelter availability, and/or other circumstances, always keeping the safety of the group in mind.
